Data Deposit

Data Deposit

To start depositing research data you must first ensure that you already have a user account on DataRepositóriUM. If you don't have one yet, you can create one here https://datarepositorium.uminho.pt/ in the Sign Up menu.

You must also have the necessary permissions to be able to start depositing data into one of DataRepositoryUM's Dataverses (Collections). You can confirm your permissions to the support team by contacting the email datarepositorium@usdb.uminho.pt.

If you don't have a user account yet, check out the 10-step Membership Guide (PT) where you can find out what you need to know to share, publish and manage your research data in DataRepositóriUM.

Do you already have a user account and the necessary permissions? If yes, you can start creating a new Dataset by following the steps described below:

1. Create Dataset

1. Access the Dataverse to which you want to add a Dataset.
2. Click the "Add Dataset" button and select "New Dataset" from the drop-down menu.
3. Start the description of your Dataset by filling in the Citation Metadata. Fill in at least all required fields (e.g., the Dataset Title, Author, Description, Contact Email, and Subject) to get the Citation Dataset with a DOI.

2. Upload Files

4. In the "Files" section click "Select Files to Add" to add the files that make up your Dataset.

Tip: You can drag and drop or select multiple files at a time from your desktop directly to the loading area. Your files will appear below the "Select Files to Add" button where you can add a description and labels for each file (via the "Edit Tags" button).

Note: An MD5 identifier will automatically be added to each file. If you upload a tabular file it will be assigned a UNF identifier (Universal Numerical Fingerprint).

3. Save Dataset

5. When you are finished, click the "Save Dataset" button.
Your Dataset is now created, but not yet published. Once you save your Dataset a Draft version is created, which you can continue to enrich with more elements, as described below.

4. Add or Edit Metadata

6. Go to the "Metadata" tab and click "Add + Edit Metadata" to fill in additional citation metadata and disciplinary metadata about the dataset.

Note: Note: The following disciplinary metadata schemes are available: Geospatial, Social Sciences and Humanities, Astrophysics and Astronomy, Life Sciences. Additional disciplinary metadata will be available in the future.

5. Define the Terms of Use

7. Go to the "Terms" tab where you can configure how users can use your data after they have downloaded it (CC0 license or custom Terms of Use), how they can access your data if you have files under restricted access (access terms), and activate a Guestbook for your dataset so you can monitor who is using your data and for what purposes. You can see more details here (PT).

6. Publish your Dataset

8. Publish your Dataset once you have finished uploading the files, describing the data, as well as defining the terms of use.
A Dataset can remain in Draft version for as long as its author wishes. As such, it allows the Dataset to only be visible to the Dataset author, the Dataverse Curator where the Dataset is hosted, and selected users to whom you can assign specific permissions. This allows the Dataset author to build their dataset over the course of their research process, making it public when: they deem it relevant; the research is finished, or they consider the data ready to be published.
